Ultrasonic-assisted liposuction (UAL) is one of several options available to patients who want to improve their body contours via lipo. During UAL, your surgeon will insert a special probe through a small incision near the target area that gives off ultrasonic vibrations. This energy causes the walls of the fat cells to burst, emulsifying the fatty deposits. In this liquefied state, the fat is easier for the surgeon to remove using gentle suction. There are three primary benefits to using UAL:
1. EASIER RECOVERY
The ultrasonic energy of UAL targets only fat cells, and doesn’t damage nearby nerves, blood vessels or other tissue. As a result, there is less trauma to surrounding areas compared to traditional liposuction. This ability to specifically target adipose tissue leads to reduced swelling and limited blood loss for the patient.
2. MORE DEFINED RESULTS
Traditional liposuction relies heavily on the surgeon making broad, back-and-forth motions with the cannula to physically break up the fat deposits. Surgeons who utilize UAL are better able to deliver more precise and sculpted results because the ultrasonic waves allow them to more easily break down the fat cells without the manual force required by other methods. This allows for a greater level of finesse compared to traditional lipo.
3. TARGETS TOUGH AREAS
Certain areas of the body, such as the upper back and male chest, have been challenging to treat with liposuction in the past because they’re more fibrous, which limits access to softer fatty tissue. However, the targeting capability of UAL gives surgeons the technological edge they need to effectively treat even the most muscular areas.
